Ingram entered the game as the SEC's leading rusher and is the Crimson Tide's best offensive player. He is considered a major contender for the Heisman Trophy (frontrunner along with Texas' Colt McCoy).

Upchurch was starting in place of sophomore RB Mark Ingram, who had been battling the flu the week of the game. While Upchurch recovers, Terry Grant and true freshman Trent Richardson will take snaps at reserve tailback.

But it gives somebody else an opportunity to go out and play."

Deaderick has missed practice since Monday (Sept 7), but head coach Nick Saban insists that the starting DE's absence is excused. Saban says that he expects to see Deaderick back with the team on Sept 11. Despite getting shot in the forearm the week of the Virginia Tech game, Deaderick saw limited action on Sept 5 against the Hokies. If he does not play Sept 12, his likely replacement would be junior Luther Davis.

09/04	10:42pm	Brandon Deaderick	DE	Doubtful	Arm	Senior DT Brandon Deaderick suffered a gunshot wound to his forearm during an off-campus robbery attempt on Aug 31. Though the injury is not life-threatening, there is no timetable for Deaderick's return at this time. That said, Deaderick has been cleared by the Alabama medical staff to resume to full-time football activities. He is available for Saturday's game against Virginia Tech. The senior starter at left DE made 14 starts in 2008, recording 36 tackles and four sacks (second on the team).

In 2008, Maze made four starts at WR and gained 137 receiving yards on 11 receptions.
